Our Pastor

Rev. Rathel Earl Goodman, is the second of four children born on January 31 in Houston, TX.

He was raised in historic 5th Ward where he attended Nat Q. Henderson Elementary School. He later was moved to the Vanguard Program at Pleasantville Elementary School and William S. Holland Middle School. Returning to his roots, he attended and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School.  He attended Prairie View A&M University and Potters Bible Institute and was conferred the degree of Bachelor of Theology.

Rathel received Jesus Christ as his personal saviour at an early age. He joined and was baptized at Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A. D. Harris.

On the fourth Sunday in December 1996 he united with Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mose A. Jones. Shortly thereafter he was called into the ministry and preached his first sermon July 1, 1997.

He found his good thing and obtained the favor of the Lord in Michelle Denise Goodman. To this union three children were born Bria Nicole, Raiya Elise and Darius Earl.

He served faithfully as a devoted member of the church in various ministries and was blessed by God to be elevated to serve as the Assistant to Pastor Jones in September 2000. As a devoted assistant, he served God, Pastor Jones and the Greater Hope Church family faithfully for 13 years.

In October 2013, an even greater call was given and answered by Rev. Goodman to become the Pastor and Leader of New Hope Bible Church in La Marque, TX.

Rev. Goodman believes that through preaching, teaching and studying God's Word encouragement can be found for all in accordance with II Timothy 2:15.
